The annual social work registration renewal period opens today.
Practitioners registered with Social Work England have until 30 November 2025 to complete the process, via their online account with the regulator, in order to stay on the register and remain in practice.
This involves three steps:
- completing the renewal form;
- paying the £120 renewal fee (most practitioners pay this in two instalments, taken by direct debit in October and April each year);
- uploading two pieces of continuing professional development (CPD), at least one of which must have been reflected upon with a peer.
The renewal fee has increased by 33% this year, despite the measure - and accompanying increases in the registration, restoration and overseas applicant scrutiny fees - being opposed by the vast majority of about 8,000 consultation respondents and most social work bodies.
For the second year running, Social Work England will not be checking a sample of CPD submissions to see if requirements have been met, because it is planning to consult on revising the process next year.
